BMW Museum

museum - Monaco of Bavaria (1972)

The BMW Museum is the company museum of the history of BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke), founded in Munich, near the Olympiapark, in 1972, shortly after the Summer Olympics.

The museum tells the story of the German car manufacturer, showcases the history of the BMW company, the historical evolution of the brand's skills and innovative forces, together with its sporting achievements and successes. The brand and its products are presented in a presentation format with innovative and fascinating displays.

In the over 5,000 square meters of exhibition space, around 125 production pieces including engines, cars and motorcycles are on display. The development of the BMW brand is described from the past to today with an eye towards the future.

The heart of the material on display is represented by some iconic products from BMW's history such as the BMW R 32, the BMW 507 and the legendary BMW 2002.

The museum was renovated between 2004 and 2008, coinciding with the construction of the BMW Welt (multi-purpose exhibition centre) and was reopened at the end of the works on 21 June 2008.

Visitors are guided along a route that extends for approximately 1,000 metres, passing between buildings, clubs and squares. The exhibition is thematic-based, rather than chronological in structure, allowing the highlighting of developments across different thematic areas, such as design, motoring and motorsport.
