Vitra Design Museum

Weil am Rhein, Basilea

The Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, near Basel, has headquarters in a building designed by architect Frank Gehry and California is one of the most important museums of architecture and industrial design in the world. Dedicated to research and presentation of design, past and present, and examines his relationship with architecture, art and everyday culture.

 The museum hosts temporary exhibitions and events on architecture, design and furniture design. Since 1989, the Swiss manufacturer Vitra furniture has transformed its business area of Weil am Rhein (D) in a real architectural park where you can see examples of works by Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Nicholas Grimshaw, Alvaro Siza and Tadao Ando .

 The museum offers guided tours of the exhibitions and architectural works in the Vitra Campus, in addition to house the cafeteria and museum shop.

In the main building of the museum, designed by Frank Gehry, have staged two major exhibitions each year.
Small parallel events are presented in the Vitra Design Museum Gallery, an exhibition space nearby.

The work of the Vitra Design Museum is based on his collection, which includes not only the essentials of design history, but also the properties of some important figures among them Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, Alexander Girard and Verner Panton.

 The library, museum and archive of documents are available to researchers on request. The museum sees its exhibitions for tourism, and are shown at locations around the world. On the Vitra Campus, are complemented by a rich program of events, guided tours and workshops.
