Sella - Zanotta

stool by phone (1957)

Designed by brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Zanotta in 1957, Sella is a symbol of Italian design products that contribute to the success of Made in Italy.

Sella was designed as a "phone stool" made with industrial elements. The seat is a real saddle of racing bicycle, leather, black set with the classic lever to clamp a steel rod painted pink.

The base, made of cast iron with a diameter of 33 cm, allows the dynamic equilibrium and the seat to be "still standing". Laltezza total seat is 71 cm and is extensible.

The design idea of this object can not be grasped if we remember that in the fifties most of the phones in the home were placed on a wall and people were using them to stand next to the appliance.

The prototype was presented in the exhibition "Colors and shapes in the house today" held at Villa Olmo, Como in 1957.

Production: Zanotta, 1983
